My first foray into the world of franchising was when I set up the Pirtek Belfast franchise business back in 1998, which I owned and operated for six years and which continues to trade in the original premises in Newtownabbey.

The name ‘Bigfish’ is a nod to my NI roots and is the name of the very famous sculpture in Belfast of the same name and from which I took my stylised logo. Franchising though is a worldwide phenomenon and I travel regularly through Ireland, UK, and most recently Sweden in the course of my work.

I graduated from Queens University Belfast with BEng (mech) degree in 1987, and spent the early part of my career working and training in London, Edinburgh, and Manchester in various technical sales roles and within a number of Blue Chip companies.


I returned to NI to take up a Sales Management position within the Pipe Manufacturing industry, supplying ductile iron and later plastic pipe products to the Construction and Utilities Industries directly, via merchants, and to Local Government.


I set up Bigfish Franchising in 2013 and now offer Franchise Development, Franchisee Recruitment, and Franchisee Training services to SME’s, and have been instrumental in establishing a number of new franchises into the UK and Ireland market.

The Future

I’ve recently taken on two Franchise Master Licenses in Ireland with the aim of developing a network of franchisees here, while continuing to assist Franchisors to develop their franchise format businesses.
